FAYEZ SEIF, M.D., is an expert physician among a family of experts. “My father and grandfather were both doctors,” he relates, “so it is only natural that I became a doctor too, but I also love the science [of medicine]. It’s all very interesting and complex.” It is that complexity and intrigue that has fueled his unyielding passion for practicing medicine.
Dr. Seif’s career began with medical studies and a Master’s of Science in Biochemistry at Cairo University School of Medicine where he graduated with the highest honors. At New York Medical College and Westchester County Medical Center he completed his residency, internship and fellowship, receiving accolades for teaching and research. Following his fellowship, Dr. Seif pursued additional post-graduate coursework in advanced esophageal studies. In 1998, Dr. Seif relocated to Dallas to open a private practice. Today, he is still in practice and also serves as Medical Director of Texas GI Center in Mesquite, Texas.
Gastroenterology fascinated Dr. Seif early on; he found the subspecialty profoundly rewarding. He describes the practice as multi-faceted, sharing the complexities of the gastrointestinal system and why it requires a great deal of complex and outside-the-box thinking to solve each case. “[Gastroenterologists] are able to integrate a lot of evidence-based medicine into practice,” says Dr. Seif. “It requires me to stay on the cutting-edge of medicine for even the most basic cases.”
When he can carve out spare time in his very busy schedule, Dr. Seif likes to make time for travel and recreational sports, including tennis and skiing. Day to day, he tries to steal a moment for reading or listening to music, enjoying an eclectic array of genres from classic rock to opera.
When it comes to caring for his patients, Dr. Seif follows a motto which his cousin, a fellow physician, recited to him in his early years as a young resident, “…always be amicable, able and available [for patients].” He says it is with these words in mind that he works very closely with each patient to ensure they can reach their health goals.
Dr. Seif stays very involved in clinical research as an associate of Texas Digestive Disease Consultants. “We have access to hundreds of clinical trials,” he says. “If a patient is not responding to treatment, we can see if they qualify for a study that may help progress their treatment, while still working within their budget.”
